8 St Dwynwen’s Day ideas
With Wales’s Valentine’s Day coming up on Thursday 25th of January, we thought we’d highlight some of the most romantic locations that are in Denbighshire. From beautiful beaches to stunning walks, Denbighshire is the perfect romantic location to spend St Dwynwen’s Day.
Take in the view from our Castle on the Hill
Like the Ed Sheeran song, Castell Dinas Bran is literally a castle on a hill. Whilst the hike itself can be challenging you are rewarded with stunning views of the Dee Valley and of Llangollen town below. It is popular with visitors for it’s beautiful location and is the perfect spot to get away from it all with a special someone.
Explore our beautiful coast
We boast a beautiful coastline in Denbighshire, with seaside towns of Rhyl and Prestatyn, you can pop into local cafes and hubs along the coastal paths. Walk or cycle the route as both make for a romantic day at the beach.
Forgot your bicycle? No problem why not start your journey at the Cycle Hub in Rhyl
Discover the magical Dyserth waterfall
Discover the magical waterfall at Dyserth and lose yourself in the tranquillity of the area. Falling some 70 feet the waterfall then flows west bound to join the River Clwyd west of the town of Rhuddlan. You can continue onto the Dyserth Circular walk from this location in order to extend your romantic walk.
Tour the Denbigh Castle and Walls
With stunning views set within a beautiful town exploring the Denbigh Castle and town walls is a perfect way to spend a romantic day with someone. Gaining access to the town wall walks requires you to get the key from either the castle, Denbigh Library or the Glass Onion Cafe (where you can start your walk with a welsh cup of tea)
Have a romantic stay in a Castle
Why not book your stay in a real castle? There is no better romantic location to spend Wales’ valentine’s day than Ruthin Castle. Set within the beautiful and popular market town of Ruthin, make a weekend of St Dwynwen’s day and escape to the country.
Hike up Moel Famau
Moel Famau is the highest point in the Clwydian Range. With it standing in the centre of the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty that lies in North East Wales, there is not better place to spend a romantic day with someone special. With stunning views on the way up and at the top of the summit, Moel Famau is the perfect place to get that epic St Dwynwen’s Day selfie.
Take a trip on a steam train
What doesn’t scream romance than a steam train ride through the stunning Dee Valley? Getting the train from the beautiful town of Llangollen from the station at Llangollen Railway and then steaming through the Dee Valley and finishing in the quaint village of Carrog for a drink and a bit to eat at the Grouse Inn. Don’t say we don’t spoil you in Denbighshire!
More adventurous kind of romance
If you are looking for a more adventourous St Dwynwen’s Day then Denbighshire can cater to that as well. Whether it is a leisurely kayaking through the canal at Llangollen or Kitesurfing on the coast at Rhyl then Denbighshire can host even the most hardcore of couples!
